Steve, a native Californian, and Sue, born and raised in New Hampshire, met in California in our late 30s. Neither of us were potters at the time, yet we both had a love of the arts throughout our lives. Sue took a variety of fine art and pottery classes while raising her family, and Steve received a degree in music while raising his family. It wasn't until later in our lives together that we began to focus on how we could transition into careers in the arts. Because we both had a love of making pots, we started taking pottery classes together in California.
In 2003 we moved to Newbury, N.H. The natural beauty of our newfound surroundings created a peaceful space in which to live and work. Working together every day we help and encourage each other to develop our unique styles. We value each other's artistic sensibility, and having that extra perspective in the studio is invaluable.
Our work ranges from drinking vessels, bowls, casseroles, and French butter keepers, to vases and Raku fired vessels. Many of the pieces are incised with botanical as well as free flowing geometric designs.
Our aesthetic influences come from a variety of experiences: Backcountry camping trips to the canyonlands of the Southwest; Art Nouveau and Art Deco; psychedelic poster art of the 1960s; and our admiration of both ancient and modern pottery.
